What is peek material made of

PEEK (polyether ether ketone) material as a high-performance polymer material because of its excellent mechanical properties, chemical resistance and thermal stability, in aerospace, automotive manufacturing, electronics and medical and other fields have been widely used, its manufacturing process integrates precision chemical synthesis and advanced material processing technology. This paper will comprehensively analyze the production process and technical points of PEEK material.

PEEK Molecular structure

The industrial production of PEEK uses nucleophilic substitution method, with DFBP (4,4 ‘-difluorobenedione) and hydroquinone as polymerization monomer, diphenylsulfone as solvent, under the action of alkali metal carbonate, heated to 280-340 ℃ for condensation reaction, first produces a mixture of PEEK crude powder and alkali metal salt. The PEEK powder was separated by cooling, grinding, purification, extraction and drying. According to the specific downstream application, coarse powder after fine powder processing, particle processing, composite enhancement and other processes can be produced to meet the requirements of the corresponding products. The PEEK molecular weight depends on the molar ratio of DFBP and hydroquinone. “The two are usually equimolar ratios, and if there is a slight excess of the former, the polymer contains a fluorine terminal group, which is more thermally stable than the phenolic terminal group.” The molar ratio of alkali metal carbonate to hydroquinone is usually greater than 2:1. If the ratio is too low, the polymer is brittle. If the ratio is too high, it will cause a series of side reactions and affect the performance of the product. Because the molecular chain of PEEK contains a large number of benzene rings, it has excellent physical and chemical properties, mechanical and thermal properties. PEEK has a melting point of 343°C, a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 143°C, and a tensile strength of 100 MPa. In addition, at a high temperature of 250°C, PEEK can also maintain high wear resistance and low friction coefficient.

The purification of medical implantable PEEK is extremely difficult, requiring manufacturers to have advanced purification technology and equipment, strict production environment and equipment cleanliness control standards, as well as professional testing and verification capabilities. With its excellent quality and high biocompatibility, Junsun Medical’s implantable PEEK material has become a leader in the field of medical implantation. Its excellent quality is indeed worthy of the trust and purchase of patients and medical institutions.
